Serendipity

“Serendipity. Look for something, find something else, and realize that what you’ve found is more suited to your needs than what you thought you were looking for.”  — Lawrence Block

This shot was taken with a 4 megapixel Kodak EasyShare on the morning of March 9th.My one rule when photographing outdoors (meaning not -at-home) is shoot in situ — Shoot it the way you found it.

I was at Forest Park early one morning just after sunrise, near the Art Museum, on the walkway overlooking the Grand Basin when I saw a Diet Coke can on one of the concrete benches. It was covered with condensation. I stood over it, came in as tight as I could and snapped the picture.

At home, I cropped it square, converted it to black & white, sharpened it and posted it on Flickr.

To someone else, it was trash left on a park bench. To me, it was serendipity.
